The Breast Cancer & Women’s Health Institute Launches 2nd Annual Pink Out

This Year’s Fundraiser Will Support the Breast Cancer Voucher Program

The Breast Cancer & Women’s Health Institute of Central PA (BCWHI) has begun its second annual Pink Out Contest, a photo contest to raise money and spread awareness of breast cancer and to educate women about the disease. Community members are invited to submit photos for the Pink Out contest from August through October. The public is invited to vote for the contest winners during Breast Cancer Awareness month in October through their Facebook page.

Funds raised via the Pink Out will be donated to the newly created Breast Cancer Voucher Program, which provides monetary support to breast cancer patients in Central PA who are either underinsured or uninsured. The BCWHI is located on the Tyrone Regional Health Network campus in Tyrone.

BCWHI is currently collecting pink clothing and accessories for the Pink Out.  Anyone wishing to donate gently used or new pink items may deposit items in collection boxes placed at locations around Blair County. Collection sites include the BCWHI Lobby, Altoona Mirror main entrance Tyrone Hospital Lobby, Northern Blair Senior Center in Tyrone, Central Blair Senior Center in Altoona, and the Southern Blair Senior Center in East Freedom. The donation boxes will be available through the end of September,

The pink items collected will be available at a BCWHI Pink Out station at certain special events. pink put breast cancer eventPeople who want to participate in the Pink Out contest can stop by and use the items to Pink Out and get their photo taken on the spot and enter the contest. All photo contest participants will be asked to give a small donation to support the Breast Cancer Voucher Program.  Upcoming events where a Pink Out station will be available include Health-O-Rama on August 15th at the Logan Valley Mall in Altoona and events to celebrate the hospital’s 60th Anniversary to be held this fall.

Businesses will also have the opportunity to participate in the Pink Out Contest this year! Businesses can make a donation to benefit the Breast Cancer Voucher Program and in return, hold a Pink Out for their employees and submit photos from their Pink Out to the contest.  Businesses also have the option to Pink Out another business. For a small donation, BCWHI staff will bring pink gear to the business that is being Pinked Out and take photos of the employees dressed in pink.
